In 1977, Dr. Gerson founded the Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic as a family veterinary practice, providing care primarily for cats and dogs. After graduating in 2009 from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Stephanie Berger was thrilled for the opportunity to return home to Pittsburgh to practice veterinary medicine. Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Berger attended Penn State University and completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Bioscience. In her spare time she enjoys reading, cross-stitching, and scuba diving. Dr. Berger also enjoys living in Squirrel Hill with her husband, Brad, their daughter Ellie, their son Henry, and their Goldendoodle, Cody.
Dr. Mathias is a 1988 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School. She worked in a mixed animal practice in State College prior to joining the Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic in 1996. Dr. Caroline Simard graduated from La Faculté de médecine vétérinaire of the Université de Montréal in 1994. After three years in emergency and critical care, she opened her own practice in Montréal before moving permanently to Pittsburgh in 2003. She has been at the Point Breeze veterinary clinic since then, she found a high quality practice and considers the office like a second family. She now lives in Lawrenceville with two Australian Shepherds and two cats, and regularly visits Montréal where her family still lives.
Christie Schroth is a 2006 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to veterinary school, she attended Oberlin College in Ohio and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. Dr. Schroth is a native Pittsburgher who is close to her family and her roots here in Allegheny County. She finds the high quality of life and the favorable cost of living to be the main reasons why she decided to return to her home town. She has a dog (Devi) and 2 cats (Buddha and Knuckles) as part of her family as well.
After graduating in 2006 from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Andrea Honigmann joined Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic in August 2016. Dr. Honigmann lives with her husband, 3 children, 1 dog and 1 cat. In her spare time, Dr. Honigmann likes to experiment in the kitchen and read. Other interests include Pittsburgh Pirates baseball, kayaking, and someday when the children are older, traveling (again). Dr. Honigmann is an active member of both the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association, where she serves on the Scientific Programming Committee.
Dr. LiVolsi joins us in the clinic for appointments on Wednesdays and Fridays at Point 2. She is an experienced chiropractor with over 12 years of animal care. A member of the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association, she was the first AVCA certified practitioner for Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties. Dr. LiVolsi is a leader in her field, and she has served on the AVCA’s Practice Standard Committee and helped to write and administer their first national board. We are proud to offer her services here at Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic.
Jane has been with the practice since 1981. She is a member of the PVMA and secretary/ treasurer of the WPVMA. She has served on the board of directors and is a Past President of the PVTA. Jane is married to her husband Ron and has 2 children. They have 2 dogs and 2 cats. She enjoys teaching puppy socialization classes as well as doing agility with her bulldog Tank. She also enjoys gardening and being outdoors.
Terri has been a member of our team since 1988. She enjoys providing in-house care to patients and working with cats. Terri and her husband love and enjoy spending time with their family. They have 2 wonderful daughters, 1 awesome son-in-law, and 2 precious grand-daughters who bring out the kid in them. The also have 2 cat fur babies. In her spare time, Terri enjoys reading, movies and astronomy.
Christina started working here in the fall of 1994. She has 2 dogs (Nina and Dude) and 2 cats (Piper and Walter). Christina enjoys coming to work to spend time with her extended family. Her hobbies include target shooting, ATV riding, online shopping, and visiting her cabin, Las Vegas and Aruba.
Amanda has been working at Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic full time since 2007 since graduating form Veterinary Technician Institute. She lives with her husband, her daughter, and their pack of Beagles. Amanda enjoys spending time with friends and family, and outdoor activities.
Andrea was born and raised in Pittsburgh, where she grew up in Shadyside and Morningside. She has been working at Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic since 2012. While she loves and has worked with all creatures great and small, she has a special passion for working dogs and cats. She now lives in Swissvale with her dachshund, Beans, who helps her make dog treats
Sarah has been a team member since 2015. Following graduating from University of Pittsburgh in 2016, Sarah began working at Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic full time. Sarah lives with her boyfriend, and 2 dogs (Freyja and Fletcher) and one cat (Peachy). In her spare time, Sarah enjoys hiking, and competing in sports with her dogs.
Amanda Bowan has been involved in Veterinary medicine since 2002. A licensed Vet Tech with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Amanda has over 15 years experience with shelter medicine, emergency veterinary medicine and veterinary management. Before Amanda came to Point Breeze Veterinary, she was the medical manager for the Animal Rescue league. Her down to Earth approach and animal compassion and empathy are invaluable to us at Point Breeze Vet.
After graduating from Edinboro University in 2014, Melissa graduated from VTI in 2016. She's been certified since 12/2016. She's worked at boarding kennel (country lane) for 8 years. Melissa has 1 dog (Lloyd) and two cats (L.B. and Billie). She's always wanted to work with animals since she was little. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys dancing, taking vacations and just relaxing at home with friends.
Lisa began working at Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic shortly after graduating the Veterinary Technician Institute in 2016. She lives with her boyfriend, 2 dogs (Niko and Jax) and one cat (Crosby). Lisa loves her work, animals, and swimming. She is also a very talented massage therapist.
A graduate of Alfred State College in New York State, Heather became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 2016. Afterwards, she began working as an emergency technician at MVA Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Services in Rochester, NY. She loves to run, spend time with her family, and play with her family dog (Piper), 3 cats (Riley, Taz, and Oreo), as well as her teddy bear hamster (Sunny)
Jenny lives in Greenfield with her husband, two daughters, a dog and two cats. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy. She enjoys musical theater, reading memoirs, dreaming of exotic vacations, and sharing a meal with family and friends.
Alexa is currently an undergraduate student at Cornell University majoring in Animal Science with a pre-vet concentration. She hopes to attend vet school in the Fall of 2019. Alexa is currently fostering and training a service dog and in her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends, family, and her two dogs.
Ona is a senior at Carnegie Mellon University studying Biology with a minor in Biomedical Engineering. She loves animals and is grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the field of veterinary medicine by working at Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic. In her free time, she enjoys reading, listening to music, and spending time with her chinchilla, "Sandy".
Our second location, Point 2 for Healthy Pets offers the space and availability for regular check-ups, vaccinations and simple procedures. This allows you and your pets to get in and out more quickly and with less stress than visiting our primary care facility.
Since 2006, we have been offering a new type of clinic that specializes in wellness care for your pet. At Point 2 for Healthy Pets, our Doctors are available to see your pet for vaccinations, checkups, and other simple procedures. This spacious office has a large waiting area and 3 fully equipped exam rooms for dogs and cats, so at Point 2, you will receive the same level of care that you have come to expect, without any disruptions.
Our veterinarians and staff members will be seeing both old and new patients at Point 2, and all doctors will rotate between the Main Office and Point 2. Point 2 is located right around the corner from our main clinic, at 415 Gettysburg St. Suite 2.
